Brand Colors Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All

Maroon ain’t basic — and neither are we 😂. See how we nail tricky brand colors every time (and why vector files matter)

If there’s one color that keeps us on our toes, it’s maroon.

Maroon isn’t just “dark red.” Depending on the brand, it can lean brown, burgundy, wine, brick, or even purple. And what looks perfect on a screen doesn’t always translate the same way once ink hits fabric.

That’s why color testing is a non-negotiable part of how we work at The Twisted Hippo. As the person behind every print, I personally test each color until it’s exactly right.

Brand Colors Aren’t One-Size-Fits-All

Every brand color reacts differently when printed. Shirt color, fabric type, and ink absorption all play a role — especially with deeper shades like maroon.

Sometimes dialing in a color takes 10 minutes. Other times, it takes multiple adjustments and test prints until it looks right. Not “close enough.” Right.

Maroon is often the one that needs the most love.

Why Vector Files Matter (A Lot)

This is where vector files come in — and why we always prefer them when available.

Vector files allow us to tweak colors on the back end before printing. That means we can:

  • Adjust individual color values
  • Fine-tune undertones (hello, maroon 👋)
  • Compensate for fabric color and texture
  • Make sure the final print matches what you expect to see

With vector files, I can tweak individual brand colors on the back end so what you see online actually matches what you get in hand — especially for tricky tones like maroon.

Testing Is the Difference You Can Feel

Before your order is finalized, we test how that color actually prints on fabric — not just how it looks on a screen. This helps ensure:

  • Brand colors stay true
  • Logos don’t lose depth or richness
  • The final product looks professional and intentional

That extra step is especially important for schools, teams, and businesses where color consistency matters.

Why We Don’t Skip This Step

Could we print without testing? Sure.
Would it be faster? Yes.
Would it meet our standards? Nope.

Behind-the-scenes testing is how we protect your brand, your school colors, and your expectations. It's part of being a small business that cares about quality - not shortcuts.

So when you see us posting test prints or color swatches, just know: that’s us making sure your maroon (or navy… or gold… or purple) shows up exactly how it should.

Because your brand deserves more than “almost right.”
